I chose Penn State Harrisburg for all of the "big school" resources that it offers on a small campus. As a first-generation college student, I have felt supported throughout my college career and provided with countless opportunities. The small campus has allowed me to create a support system on campus, with professors cheering me on, classmates across different fields, and friends who I can truly count on. I love my small community!
There is always something going on! Student-led clubs on campus host events and meetings every day, so you will find something to keep you involved and busy. Outside of the classroom, you can join sports teams, academic or social clubs, or get to know new friends. Some of my favorite events on campus include the Fall Bonfire, Movie Nights, Spring/Fall Fest (where we get a ton of free goodies 2x a year), as well as Cultural Galas and Events. If you are not in a club, you can also go on FREE trips that have gone to see Broadway shows, explore cities like DC and NYC, snowboarding, or local sporting events and musical.
GET INVOLVED! I remember that in high school most people avoided on-campus events for fear of what others may think. Go to new events, meet new people, learn about a different culture, try new foods, and GET A FREE T-SHIRT FROM EVENTS! Attending events has been so much fun on campus, and has allowed me to meet new faces who I frequently see around campus.
Friendly and fun to talk to! The diverse faculty members have different stories and backgrounds that you may relate to or learn from. They are also helpful in networking and making connections that help you find research or career opportunities.
